Gubernatorial candidate Chris Jones will be in Prescott Sunday, Sept. 4 at the Nevada County Library with his “Walk a Mile Tour”. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. The event will begin at 6 p.m.

If you require assistance scheduling an appointment, please call the library at 870-887-5846.  Patrons are limited to one 45 minute computer session per day in order to accommodate as many patrons as we safely can in our building. To allow time for cleaning after each use, scheduled sessions must be authorized by the circulation desk for extended time. Staff will let you know when your time is ending. After you finish using a computer, please collect your belonging and exit the library. You will need a library account to access the computer. If you do not yet have an account and wish to use a computer, visit https://nevadacountylibrary.wordpress.com. – click catalog, then log on.  Staff will be unable to offer one-on-one computer assistance.

You are welcome to browse the collection, check-out items, and pick up holds. We encourage all patrons to make their visits as brief as possible. The library cannot serve as a gathering place at this time.

*Our staff will be wearing masks for your safety. We appreciate you wearing your face covering and practice social/physical distancing when you visit us. If you unable to wear a mask, you have the option for curbside services.

Copy, fax, and scan services are available without a reservation. Staff members will no longer make change for large bills such as $20.00, so please arrive prepared to use bills in small denominations and coins.

COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test

Library Joins Program to Distribute Free Rapid COVID-19 Tests

The Prescott Nevada County library is set to distribute free rapid at-home COVID test kits in partnership with the Nevada County Health Unit. To make COVID-19 testing more available, Nevada County residents can pick up free, rapid at-home test kits at the Prescott Nevada County Library beginning Wednesday, January 12. The iHealth COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test kits will be available on a first come, first served basis while supplies last. The tests can be performed at home and offer results in 15 minutes. Residents can receive a maximum of two test per person (each rapid kit has two tests).

People showing symptoms of COVID-19 should NOT come to the library distribution site and should contact their health care provider or make an appointment for a PCR test at a location providing testing throughout the community.

The library will distribute kits from 11:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. No library card is required to receive a test kit. You will need to bring proof of residency, such as a driver’s license, ID and/or a current bill that shows your address. Masks are required in the library building – including when picking up a test.

BREAKING NEWS

The Prescott Nevada County Library has just been informed that another shipment of the COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test has been made available for us to distribute.

The test will be made available on a first come, first serve basis, while supplies last.

The library will begin distribution at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 14th and Saturday, January 15th at 11:30 a.m.

The Libby app for Overdrive

Prescott/Nevada County Library recommends the Libby app for e-book and audiobook access through the Overdrive service. This new app provides a faster and more visually appealing way to browse, download, or stream all the same titles you’re accustomed to finding in Overdrive. You may continue to use the “classic” OverDrive app but please be aware that Overdrive now recommends using the Libby app.

Cardholders at the Prescott/Nevada County Library may check out e-books and read them on your favorite mobile device or e-reader. Login using your library card number and PIN.

Dig into your family history with Ancestry Library Edition

Ancestry Library Edition is a comprehensive online source of information for genealogical research, with billions of names in over 6,000 databases. You can access Ancestry Library Edition at the Prescott/Nevada County Library (library access only).

Search through census records; birth, marriage and death records; immigration records; vital and church records; military records; and court, land and probate records are included. Popular databases include the U.S. Federal Census from 1790 to 1930, Social Security Death Index, Civil War records, U.S. Public Records Index, American Genealogical-Biographical Index and Federal Slave Narratives.

 

World Catalog and Traveler database

 

The World Catalog and Traveler Database has been linked to our website under the topic Resource. Once you click Resource, scroll down to Traveler Database or World Catalog. It is the world’s largest collection of data with over 2.5 M titles. This is where you go for whatever you need to do, whether for fun or educational.  Using Traveler as your search engine proves to be superior above any other, mainly because you have no ads or spams, you can print or save, or e-mail search results with current citation formats. It is available 24/7 and significantly cuts out hours of research  Not only will you find sources for research, but an adult Learning Center to improve skills, career center, college center for ACT practice, computer skills, ebook collection, magazines, and Heritage Quest for researching ancestors.

Just as learning does not end when school lets out, neither does a child’s need for good nutrition.
Summer meal sites are frequently held at libraries, camps, churches, or schools. While kids receive a meal at the library, they can also stay active and continue learning with the summer reading program and books. The Arkansas NO KID HUNGRY program gives them the opportunity to eat a nutritious meal and stay on track during the summer so that they don’t fall behind when they return to school.

The Prescott/Nevada County Library is offering a course in financial literacy. We all want financial security. We all want to make enough money to support our lifestyles, raise and educate our children, save for a wonderful retirement, and have fun along the way. So to achieve it all, what will help you more, having a financial plan or a budget? The answer is both!
Budgeting? Financial planning? I don’t get it! Aren’t they the same thing?
Personal finance education begins with knowing how to plan. Learn strategies for categorizing your expenses, tracking your spending, and putting together a new budget.
This course is a great starting point for anyone who feels overwhelmed by all of the bills and paperwork standing between them and financial freedom. The class will teach you where to start, how to organize your spending, and what things you should prioritize when building your perfect budget.
